Major Sheldon Wheeler Middle School, located on Wheeler Army Airfield, celebrated the ribbon cutting of its new $100,000 DON’T QUIT! Fitness Center. The state-of-the-art facility made possible by the National Foundation for Governors’ Fitness Councils, aims to enhance student wellness by promoting physical activity and mental well-being among school-age children.

Hundreds of Soldiers, Family members and Army Civilians joined an early morning ruck march to help raise awareness for suicide prevention. The event was coordinated by the U.S. Army Garrison Japan Religious Support Office as part of a worldwide grassroots effort.

U.S. Army Garrison Rheinland-Pfalz hosted a Gold Star Mother’s and Family’s Day recognition ceremony. On June 23, 1936, the 74th United States Congress designated the last Sunday of September as Gold Star Mother’s Day. Since the loss of a loved one affects the entire family, the Department of the Army observes this day as “Gold Star Mother’s and Family’s Day.”

The Army Garrison Presidio of Monterey Better Opportunities for Single Service Members program aims to improve the experience of service members stationed at PoM while providing community service in the local Monterey area. BOSS supports the overall quality of life for single service members, including single parents, and helps maintain and improve readiness.

The new, modern school serves more than 270 students from pre-kindergarten all the way through high school and replaces a facility that has been serving the community since the 1960s.
