Housing

Quality housing for Soldiers and their Families contributes to Army readiness and leaders are committed to finding ways to improve housing conditions on installations around the world. The Army has a total of 100,000 houses with 90% of them being managed by privatized housing partners Corvias, Balfour Beatty and Lend-Lease. Though not all Army Families live on installation, 65% of Families live off installation in civilian communities.

  • Balfour Beatty operates a diverse portfolio of properties located throughout the United States.
  • Corvias properties are located within six states across the country.

Moving

The Army has two peak moving seasons: Summer (June-September) and again in the Winter (December-January). Soldiers and Families can have the Army move their household goods or choose to move themselves which is known as a Personally Procured Move. Official orders must be received by a Soldier’s command before scheduling the move process.

  • Once orders are received, Soldiers and Families should take their next steps with the Defense Personal Property System.
  • Step-by-Step: How to Move provides every step of arranging a personal property shipment. There are several steps in the moving process that happen before packing even begins; understanding each step can help ensure a smooth transition.
