As the Illinois National Guard’s new integrative prevention officer, Matt Palmisano leads a team of seven charged with preventing workplace violence and harassment, family violence and abuse, self-directed harm and sexual violence. The team is part of a new nationwide effort to use a public-health approach to address these societal issues within the National Guard.

Leaders at Fort Jackson, in South Carolina, have been testing a new program to reduce sexual harassment incidents during Initial Entry Training. Soldiers Against Sexual Harassment teaches trainees going through basic combat training what inappropriate behaviors to look for and how to intervene and stop them.
